Am I guaranteed enrollment if I apply?
We aim to assist as many qualified applicants as we can, but it’s important to note that submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment in our programs. Due to limited space and various factors such as eligibility, availability, and competition among applicants, admission is not guaranteed. However, we encourage everyone interested to apply. We thoroughly review each application and take into account all relevant factors when making enrollment decisions.

I keep applying and not getting in. What’s up with that?
We understand that it can be frustrating to not be accepted into a program after multiple applications. There are several factors that can contribute to this situation, including the competitiveness of the applicant pool, limited program capacity, specific eligibility requirements, and other considerations that are part of the selection process. It’s important to remember that the decision-making process takes into account various factors, and unfortunately, we cannot guarantee admission to all applicants.
I’m interested in a program but the application is closed, now what?
If you are interested in a program that is not currently accepting applications we highly recommend signing up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page to receive an email when our applications are open again.
What should I expect in a JVS program?
Participating in a JVS training program offers an incredible opportunity for personal growth and transformation. Throughout the program, you will receive comprehensive support, become part of a dynamic group of learners, and gain access to valuable resources. Our programs are designed to create an inclusive community where you can interact with industry experts, attend engaging workshops and guest speaker sessions, and collaborate with your peers. By joining one of our programs, you will receive guidance and assistance at every stage, ensuring that you have the best possible experience.
What is asynchronous, synchronous, and hybrid learning?
Online synchronous classes take place in real-time, where participants and instructors attend together through online platforms, even though they may be in different locations. Asynchronous classes allow participants to access class materials at different hours and from various locations, offering flexibility in scheduling. Hybrid learning, also known as blended learning, combines both in-person instruction and online learning components, providing a mix of traditional classroom settings and virtual education.
Do I need to have a laptop computer?
In order to fully participate in a JVS program, it is important to have consistent access to a computer with Zoom capabilities, as all our programs involve online learning. Using a cell phone or tablet for participation is not recommended. If you do not have a computer, JVS provides financial assistance to help participants get a laptop. However, these additional funds are only available to active and engaged participants who meet the program requirements.
What if I have been impacted by the criminal justice system?
Programs that involve internships may require background checks based on the specific requirements of our employer partners. Eligibility for participants who have been impacted by the legal justice system are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In general, a prior conviction history does not typically affect eligibility to enroll in or complete JVS programs, unless the nature of the conviction is determined by the occupation or our employer partners to make them ineligible.
Here are a few examples of cases where eligibility may be impacted:
- Participants applying to financial services programs may be affected if they have a conviction related to financial compliance, such as identity theft or credit card fraud.
- Participants applying to healthcare programs may face eligibility concerns if they have convictions related to drug use, theft, elder or patient abuse, or sexual offenses.
These examples are not exhaustive, but serve to illustrate how certain convictions may impact eligibility for specific programs. The ultimate determination is made based on the specific requirements and considerations of the program and our employer partners.
What if I’m not able to pass a drug screen?
Programs that involve internships may require drug screens based on the requirements of employer partners. Eligibility for enrollment in these programs is assessed on an individual basis in cases where participants are unable to pass a drug screen.
Will JVS help me find a job after the program is over? Am I guaranteed a job after the program?

Can I join multiple JVS programs?
Participation is limited to one program per year. Exceptions are provided for advancement programs.
What is the JVS Participant Handbook? Where can I find it?
At JVS, we place great importance on informing our participants about their rights and responsibilities prior to enrolling in our programs. Once applicants are accepted into our adult programs, they receive a Participant Handbook. This handbook contains essential information, and we kindly request that all participants initial or sign certain sections to confirm their understanding. It is important to note that all adult participants are expected to adhere to the guidelines outlined in this handbook. To access and review the handbook, please click here.
What is JVS’s COVID-19 policy?
The health and safety of our JVS community remains very important. To ensure the well-being of everyone involved, participants are required to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations. They should be prepared to present their Vaccination Record if requested. It is essential to note that partner sites affiliated with JVS may have their own specific requirements, which could include the use of masks. Participants are expected to comply with these requirements and cooperate accordingly.
Are medical or religious exemptions allowed?
Yes. Medical exemption and religious exemption requests will be considered. Participants granted an exemption will likely be required to follow additional health and safety protocols, including the use of face coverings and regular COVID-19 testing.
How do I provide feedback? How do I file a complaint?
At JVS, we believe in the importance of participant input and feedback in shaping our services and programs. As part of this process, you may be asked to engage in brief conversations or complete participant satisfaction surveys during your enrollment in a JVS program. If you encounter any issues or misunderstandings, we encourage you to promptly discuss them with your designated JVS point person. If you do not have a designated point person or prefer to speak with someone else, you can reach out via email to clientservicesall@jvs.org. If you wish to file a formal grievance, please click here.
