JVS is thrilled to honor one JVS alum and employer partner at this year’s Envision for their incredible achievements and commitment to building a stronger California workforce.
Alumni Achievement Award: Omar Moawad
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Omar Moawad—an Egyptian immigrant determined to build a new future—took a chance on himself and on JVS by enrolling in the inaugural cohort of the Foundations in Dental Assisting training program. He excelled throughout the two-month training and externship, and he quickly landed a Dental Assistant role at a local dental practice. Since then, Omar has returned to the training program as an instructor and mentor to new JVS participants who envision brighter futures for themselves—just as Omar once did. Today, Omar’s journey continues to unfold; he was recently accepted into multiple dental schools and will begin pursuing his DDS at USC in the fall.
Employer Partner Award: UC San Diego Health
UC San Diego Health is being recognized for its visionary partnership with JVS to create career advancement opportunities for employees in custodian and food service roles. Together, we launched a Sterile Processing Technician training program in 2024, helping frontline workers gain the skills needed for high-demand, thriving-wage healthcare careers. By investing in its workforce and partnering with JVS to deliver high-quality, targeted training, UC San Diego Health is expanding opportunity and building a more inclusive healthcare talent pipeline. This partnership stands as a model for employer-driven economic mobility in action.
