Diane arrived in the Bay Area in the 1980s after serving overseas in the U.S. Navy. She and her husband made the region their home until 2016, when Diane experienced the devastating and unexpected loss of her husband. Faced with the prospect of leaving the Bay Area or finding new employment to support herself, Diane began exploring careers that could leverage her experience fabricating parts in the Navy. This search led her to the JVS Automotive Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program through our partnership with Laney College. Now, she works as a Maintenance Machinist at East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), where she helps provide clean water to the community.
